When social media first came into play, it was more of a fun and interactive platform for users. However, as it has got more and more advanced, it is swaying opinions and helping businesses progress and expand themselves as a well-rounded and popular company. This is due to how businesses are using social media to help expand and interact with their customers.

For the Brexit campaign, both sides used platforms as a huge part to try and win. David Cameron stated that social media “turns lonely fights into mass campaigns; transforms moans into movements; excites the attention of hundreds, thousands, millions of people and stirs them to action”. This therefore played a huge part of the campaign. And ultimately swayed opinions into different directions.

What social media should I use?

Not every social media platform will be useful for every business. Therefore, choosing the right one is important. If your brand is more of a visual brand, then the more photo based and interactive platforms may be more of use. Like Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest.
 
However, if your company is more of a business/commercial brand, then the LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter platforms will be more use for your brand.
